Ancient
Egypt: New Kingdom 1343 -1325 BC

At the age of nine Tutankhaten ascended the throne of Egypt. Tragically
he only reigned nine years before dying mysteriously at the age of 18. The experts believe that “Tut” was
Akhenaten’s brother or son. Akhenaten
had banned the worship of all gods except for the god Aten. In the third year of Tutankhaten’s reign, Tutankhaten lifted this ban and
changed his name to Tuntankhamun to make peace with the followers of the god
Amun.
Tutankhamun’s fame came from the 1922 discovery of his untouched tomb in the Valley of the Kings. For centuries, tomb raiders had ransacked and destroyed the 60-some tombs of the Pharaohs of Egypt without discovering Tutankhamun’s tomb. Tutankhamun’s burial mask can be viewed at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
