Queen Nefertiti

Wife of Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, Nefertiti was considered very beautiful. Her beginnings and her end are unknown and subject to much speculation. Amenhotep IV worshiped only one god, the god “Aten”. He was so dedicated to his one god that he changed his name to Akhenaten (meaning pious one of Aten) and built a new city naming it Akhetaten. From carved reliefs we know that Nefertiti and Akhenaten shared a genuine loving relationship with each other and with their six daughters. Nefertiti’s third daughter married the young Prince Tutankhaten. In the 14^th year of Akhenaten’s reign, Nefertiti mysteriously disappeared from historical records.

Nefertiti’s bust is on display at Berlin’s Egyptian Museum.

Paper version:

Blue construction paper (12 in. x 18 in.) – 2 pieces

Yellow construction paper (12 in. x 18 in.) – 1 piece

Tape (clear packing tape)

Glue stick or glue

Scissors

Markers – blue, red

Floral wire - 1

Duct tape version:

Brown paper grocery bag – 1

Duct tape (blue, red, and yellow) – 1 each

Scissors – bandage scissors or other sharp scissors work best for cutting duct tape

Floral wire – 1

Other options:

Laminate construction paper - to extend the life of the hat (buy by the roll and buy good quality). Low quality laminate will separate from paper quickly.

Foam sheets – large (12 in. x 18 in.) or by the roll (18 in. x 72 in.) Tape on the inside when possible, use transparent duct tape on exterior when necessary.
